LOL!! Just don't take pictures, they will be unprintable. Ever see the movie "Slumdog Millionaire"? Makes those look good.

Today's (January 7, 2011) Orange County Register has an article by David Whiting that provides more information regarding the death of OC resident John Watcher. The coroner states cause of death as HAPE.

The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.

Good article by David Whiting. It never ceases to amaze me at the cruel comments people post about choices others make. We are all free to be who we are and it is not for them to judge us, especially when they no know not of what they speak.

I've noticed that it doesn't matter much where the newspaper is published - OC, Palm Springs, Portland, OR., Manchester, NH., etc - the trash comments are all pretty much the same whenever there's an account of a hiker/climber who was injured/died/rescued, etc. Regrettably, there's a certain "same-ness" to it.

Acceptance of hate speech has become a part of the U.S. culture. Heard an interesting bit on NPR recently, which reported on how many European countries have laws protecting free speech, while outlawing hate speech.

For those of you who are heading high, my recommendation would be to read as much Viesturs as possible...

Condolences to the family. It's always sad to read about a death in the mountains.
