We're bringing the Reel Rock Tour to Pasadena in early February! The Tour is made up of 6 climbing films, covering standard rock climbing to ice climbing and BASE.

Much more than just watching some films, this event is a chance to meet other local climbers. We are working to get sponsors for a raffle, and we'll have local S & R setup tables before the show. We expect between 200 and 300 people.

More information at our website: http://alpine.caltech.edu/Reel_Rock. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. The show starts at 7:30 PM and the location is Ramo Auditorium on the Caltech campus in Pasadena.

This is in addition to the Banff FIlm Festival that we screen every March. We will screen this on March 29, 2011 (same location as Reel Rock). More info on Banff: http://alpine.caltech.edu/Banff

The films that will be shown:
  • First Round First Minute. Since Chris Sharma moved to the sport climbing mecca of Catalunya, Spain, he's opened dozens of routes that are redefining high-end climbing. First Round First Minute gives an update on Sharma's latest 5.15 first ascents, and tells the story of his epic battle with his latest ongoing project.[/*]
  • The Hardest Moves. Daniel Woods and Paul Robinson compete to climb the hardest boulders ever scaled. An inside look at what it takes to push the difficulty envelope of this intense sport.[/*]
  • Origins: The Hulk. Peter Croft and Lisa Rands attempt a wild free ascent on the Incredible Hulk Wall in the Sierras -- arguably America's best (and least filmed) alpine rock wall. Croft, the most legendary of California's crack masters mentors the renowned boulderer Rands as she explores into alpine traditional climbing terrain.[/*]
  • Down and Out, and Under. A once-in-a-lifetime adventure expedition for first ascents in Australia and on the wild sea cliffs of outer Tasmania.[/*]
  • Fly or Die. Dean Potter continues his extreme vertical exploration, opening new freeBASE climbs, along with highline and wingsuit jumps in some of the most mind-blowing vertical footage ever captured[/*]
  • The Swiss Machine. Ueli Steck may be the greatest speed alpinist the world has ever seen. In this film he tells the stories of his record-breaking ascents in the Alps, accompanied by stunning aerial footage of him racing up 8,000 foot alpine faces. Ueli joins Alex Honnold in Yosemite to attempt speed records there. His ultimate goal: take his one-man alpine speed game to the largest, highest walls in the world. [/*]

We hope to be there Stephen. We are noobs to climbing (twice in the gym and once on rock). Our first "rock" experience was last weekend in the Alabama Hills and Owens Gorge with very experienced friends. Nothing major, just 5.6-5.7 top rope routes, but what a freakin' BLAST!!! We're totally hooked!
Thanks for posting the info.

Hey Stacy, looks like you're having fun in the pictures! That first time you go from gym to outdoor rock is quite a treat.

Hope to see you tonight at the show!

Hey Stephen
The show was awesome last night! Much bigger turn out than I expected! (We even ran into Rick Graham and his wife.)
All 6 films were GREAT! (I think I'm going to order the First Ascent DVD now). We also loved both of the two minute short films, the top rope one was friggin' hilarious!!!
Thanks for posting this info, the show was worth every penny!

Yes, it was a terrific show. Thanks to the Cal Tech Alpine Club (Stephen B) for putting on a great show. Also, thanks to the other organizations and sponsors for all the free swag.....even though I didn’t win anything

Stacy, really nice to meet you and Kurt, and a bunch of other WPSMB folks and old buddies cool

Sorry I missed the last video that featured the Nepalese women that are working towards the 7-summits (it was getting past my bedtime) http://sevensummitswomen.org/

The Toprope Tough Guys (TTG) video was pretty funny (check this link for some of the other short videos).

One of the guys in the TTG video (Jeff, who got up on stage) climbs (and topropes) at Rockreation in Costa Mesa.
I admit to being a TTG and can usually be found shredding the gnar (and learning other TTG lingo) at Rockreation on Tues and Thurs evenings grin
