I really do not know what to think about the non-status of my permit lottery app. I asked for only one entry date, August 25, so I could summit on the 50th anniversary of my first summit, August 26, 1961. To date . . . nothing! No "so sorry" letter, no "winning" letter, no charging on my charge card. Is it possible that some (my) applications have not been acted upon and no notifications have gone out by now? Did my app. get lost in the mail? Nervous time!

If you don't "win" the lottery, I have read time after time on this board that walk ins are almost always available, so it seems to me that your chances would be very good of getting a permit for that day.
Good luck.

Hi, we didn't "win" any of the numerous dates applied for during August.

Our goal was to camp 2 nights, first night at Portal and 2nd at High Camp, therefore needed only a 2 day permit (for 2 people).

Any suggestions on how to secure these ahead of time.. flexible dates in August, but we don't want to chance it and end up doing a day hike only...

Thanks for any advice!

Just got the letter today that I got a permit. Unfortunately, it was for the very last dates requested.....first week in October. Had to turn around due to snow last year, (by the same storm that trapped those guys on the summit for several days) so hoping I will have better luck this year.

It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great.
