Buck, your photos are absolutely stunning. I've done quite alot of the JMT so your photos brought back many wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing. Can you let me know what scanner you used on your slides and how is the photo quality when enlarged to 8x10 after minor touch up using photoshop. Thanx, Kim

Thanks again, mucho appreciated-o!

bethefly, my camera and lenses weighed in around 6 lbs, and I'm not sure how much my film weighed, but I (embarrassed to admit) carried about 90 rolls of film. Ha ha! Yes, I had some leftover! I bet it would be safe to say my camera gear weight fell snugly in between your little digital point-n-shoot camera and your 4x5 setup! :^D I used to live in Redding, now I'm Rocklin, but I loved it up there! Of course I love summer heat, so it was all good. That's awesome you get to make a living as a fly fishing guide, yaaaa!

sierra_hike, the scanner I use is a Nikon Coolscan IV ED. It's a year or two old and it scans at 2900 dpi, I think the new Coolscans scan at 4000 dpi. I haven't made any prints from my scans yet, but I have no doubt an 8x10 would show no resolution loss, especially if using a fine-grained positive film like Velvia 50, Velvia 100, or Provia 100F. I'm sure I could get even larger than that without any noticeable loss. My online photos are scanned at a low resolution. Thanks again!

If anyone is interested in the Lost Coast, I've been backpacking quite a bit there (already a few times this year, it's a great "winter" getaway if you want a break from the snow!) and I just uploaded some photos from recent trips. Those are at my same Photo.net site in a different folder at:

I'm not usually impressed by other person's travel pictures. I was impressed with yours. Excellent compositions! Great job! I only hope to experience similar sunsets on our hike in Sept.
