Rosie:

I'll meet you at the Portal/trail head at 3:00 am, grin Can't wait!!!!! and please don't be suprrise that i'll be slower than you... crazy I'm ok with starting out as a group and me crawling behind... eventually I'll see you again on your way down!

For what it's worth, when I picked up our dayhike permits for Norman's bday last month, the ranger at the VC who issued the permit said they didn't have hang tags this year. He told me it was ok if Norman and I got separated and I had the paper permit and he didn't, as long as he knew it was with me and under my name.

Thanks again, Rosie, Shin and Norma, for getting the permits!!!!!!

Hi Rosabella,
Mark and I meet you at Hostel around 8:00 am on Friday.

Let's meet again at VC at 10:45 a.m. for the lottery.
More applicants are better.

After getting permits:
1)Leave permits at front check-in counter for those friends who are going to stay at the Hostel on Friday night. Please take as you check-in.
2)We keep rest of the permits for friends we know their plan and we definitely see them at Portal on Saturday morning starting time of the main group.
3)Any group wants to start earlier or later than the main group's starting time, please let us know how to hand over the permits to you.

If anyone doesn't have any permits, please ask either Rosabella or me at the starting time,we have your permits. Do not worry.

Rosie and the other early birds... see you at the VC on Friday! smile

And no one worry about hiking too slow. I haven't been above 7k in a month. I'm sure i'll be on the sluggish side too. Somehow on these group hikes we end up naturally pairing up or finding ourself in a small group that stays together. Personally, i love to laugh & have great conversation while hiking. So if that means changing my pace to keep the talk going, i don't think twice.

Since this is a "Potluck" (after the day outing) does anyone have a final head count so I know how much to cook?

Hi Bob! Glad you're joining us. I know there are a few others that haven't chimed in on here that they're coming...but as far as how much to cook, there's going to be lots of food so just cook whatever amount you are able to bring with...I'm guessing now there are at least 30 ppl for the potluck that includes Spinfixr and his group smile. Maybe more... crazy

PS there is one microwave

Hey Tracie - Curt and I are going to make it afterall! I had to wait to see if we were going to finish our job today before I committed. We'll have pre-game snacks (crackers, cheese, and salami). We're not leaving until early tomorrow so no Whitney hike for us, just the party. See everyone there!

@MC, you didn't think 2011 would go by without me getting one Scully award did you! For the record since you know I did tell Shin the night before just before he went to sleep.....Sucks I missed it good times had by all. Seriously I really missed meeting Rosie for the first time saw the pics no way ROSIE you are 60 years old! I want to see a birth certificate!!! I also missed seeing Snow Nymph for the 2nd time. Missed hiking with my good friends Shin and Patrick.
Patrick thanks for understanding family and work will always come first before hiking. I hate work but it you can't be a good family man if you can't provide for them unfortunatley the two go hand in hand.
Doug thanks for putting this together for everyone....

Thanks Doug, Earline, and the crew for your usual generosity. It seemed to me that a good time was had by all.
Perfect weather, fresh snow and great grub with friends both "old" wink and new. It just doesn't get much better than that! smile

Post script- check Kurt's photo, Richard showed up from the back of the second group, then took the lead. Patrick and Dave left 2 hours after the group and joined us at reaching trailcrest. The summiteers descended almost the same amount of time as some from trailcrest.

What a wonderful weekend!!! Mt. Whitney was so beautiful in the snow, and the Saturday night potluck was so special! It was so much fun seeing old friends and meeting some new friends as well. Thank you to all for making my family feel so welcome… they all went away saying what a wonderful group of people you are and how much they enjoyed getting to know everyone.

Special thanks to Richard – you have amazing patience! I hike much slower than you ever would, but I never sensed frustration from you. We had a lot of fun on Whitney that day.

And especially, thanks to Doug and Earlene for your amazing generosity and hospitality. You are part of the reason I love to come to Whitney.

My brother Barry and I got home last night. It was a long 15-hour drive; I drove most of the way (Barry is a lot more conservative than I am and seems to feel he has to go the speed limit… and I wanted to get home LOL!).

Rosie

P.S. laugh Jeff, I’d have been happy to get “carded” and show you my driver’s license!! ....would have made my day!

I'll see your "n" and raise you a "c".

But thank you for every step of tortuous fun up that chute R. It was harder on you than it was on us.

Too much fun. Who's birthday is next?
