I am not very active on this message board, but I do read many of the posts.

Although I don't know any of the WPSMB group, I'd like to join you on the Mount Baldy hike this Friday.

I have taken a group of people up the Whitney Main Trail for the past ten years, but this years hike was cancelled due to weather.
Better to return next year since we know the mountain will be there.

I was considering a solo of Whitney MT this Saturday, but have decided against that idea due to weather conditions.

I think I may have met Kurt on one of my recent trips to Whitney, but not 100% sure.

Question: Is the group OK with an "outsider" joining in?

If so, I look forward to meeting you at Manker Flats at 6am on Friday (10/14/11) for a hike to the summit of Mt San Antonio.

Ciao.

Hi Trail Wizard,
We all were outsiders at some point and then we all crashed a hike. Then we became an insider.. We always like new blood to torture.

Have fun everyone, while Kurt is down here in my neck of the woods hiking, I'll be in his neck of the woods fishing - see you on the next one, great seeing everyone on Whitney last weekend.

Look forward to the pictures smile

Bonus!! Anybody attending these shows can receive a 10% discount off of SMI’s February and June 2012 Kilimanjaro climbs! Participants must sign up by October 14 with a $750 deposit.

Just to clarify, that's 10% off the "sticker price" of $3900, which does not include airfare to Tanzania (which would come up to additional $1500 or thereabouts)?

Do you do Mount McKinley? There is a link on the web site, but it goes to an empty page.

Also, no offense but the price quoted for Everest on the SMI web site has to be by far the highest I've ever seen for this climb. I've seen reputable places offering full-service climbs, including oxygen, a personal sherpa, and the leader with experience comparable to Kurt's, for about a third of that amount. I know a guy who went with them to North Col and it cost him 6 grand before air fare, personal gear etc.

Eugene,

I have met and have been on hikes with Kurt. I can tell you he is not only highly qualified, "reputable" and "experienced", but is safe, patient and an outstanding instructor. On his expeditions he provides one on one attention to his clients and gets you to the top!
I would suggest, if truly interested, that you give him a call and ask him.

I 2nd everything JustBob said! From what I hear on the mountain he is one of the best guides takes care of you and his summit success is one of the best.

Since your obviously showing interest in Everest Denali and Kili hit kurt up I"m sure he'd hook you up with a discount if you do all 3 with him! Unless the post was just to be negative in a public forum.....

I sincerely believe you both! But I just don't expect to have enough money to pay him for Everest in the foreseeable future. Even if I had the physical conditions to get there, which I don't. So I might have to pay him to do Denali (sometime in 2013) and then try to figure out how to do Everest on my own.

I don't know the hombre, "Kurt" personally, but I do know
this: so it's about the money with you, not so much this
pro's reputation? Sounds like there is "reputible", and then there is "outstanding". I reckon you need to remember this in
life: you get what ya pay for...........either that or just flip a coin: heads, your go w/ the other "reputible" cheaper guides, or
"tails", listen to these first hand experienced climbers trying to do you a big service. As for me and the Mrs., we learn to listen to those who done it, (like Yeti and JB) otherwise, go on "hearsay" and trust the " used car sales man: selling you a "great deal". Good Luck whatever ya do amigo. Be safe

I don't really see the way to continue this discussion without offending anybody, or even the point. So I'm not even going to try. All I'll say is, I try to do my research. I would pay extra for a good guide, but I wouldn't mortgage my house in order to climb Everest.

DUDE!!!!!!!!!

I don't know you, but I don't like you. (doing my weak imitation of bobr)

If you want to insult a respected member of this community, why don't you dig up one of bob's old posts?

It's a good thing Doug took my admin access away. You'd be gone...

BTW: you wouldn't be related to Crystal?

Can't wait to meet you all. I've admired this group from afar for some time now. Getting a chance to meet Kurt will be the icing on the cake. Ciao.

Eugene,

I think I see where the misunderstanding happened. I believe Kurt's Everest price is based on a private trip (but I could be wrong). Kurt is an excellent guide and person, and yes there are other excellent Everest guides out there. But I do have to say that on Everest, price is directly related to safety: more oxygen, Sherpa-support etc...

Have fun and stay safe,
Cindy smile

I am severely bummed, but it is looking very unlikely that I will be able to make it. I thought I had my day clear, but, life happens in the meantime. Happy trails everyone.

WOW!!!! I'll be nice in by not saying something but I'll just say that's not a cool thing to say on a message board. There are some really cool people on this board with some really awesome mountain skills....
