Congratulations on a great trip...you guys were the talk of a snow covered Baldy today as we gathered around our own crater :-)

Congrats to the entire team. Special congrats to the 'hat-trick' summiteers: Richard, Oso, Abraham, Brandon, Ryan and Tracie! My #1 goal for 2012 is Orizaba. 12.12.12. Maybe a little late in the season? smile

Loved the pix, Richard... especially dawn on Orizaba and heading home down the ridge. Look forward to the stories and more photos!

Always exciting here in LA LA Land... That's my Mom in photos 1,4 and 5. She tells us that there were 7 cops out in, and around, her front yard. They evacuated the neighborhood...

On another note: Jeff's suggested date for next year is way late. The dates reserved with Oso are 11/03 - 11/12/2012. I'll confirm at a later date.

BTW: Two out of four of the sorely missed will have to be willing to go before I commit to year four.

BTW 2: Speaking of cool numbers: 7 for 7 (Mexico volcanoes) happened for me on 11.11.11. I'm still batting 1000 in Mexico.

Cool photos, thanks for sharing. Looks like you’ve got more snow on Ixta than last year.

Richard, you’ll have to forgive Scully. He’s picked up a lot of Boston bad habits and trash talk at the gym, just ask Shin and Ryan grin
Any word on Miguel and Popo?
Good luck on Orizaba. Give my regards to Oso, Maribel and their staff, they're great!
Don’t forget to get your Orizaba t-shirt and poster this time.

The snow coverage was better and "different." (Don't ask me to define it... I think it may have gone thru less melt/freeze.)

There was a Miguel sighting in Amecameca by Oso, but we never saw him up at the hut. Last word was that he was working on a project in Mexico City. Didn't hear any news on what happened to Popo.

Oso asked where you were when he picked us up at the airport and stated that he knows you'll be back one day...

Maribel and crew were happy to see us again. They all asked that I send their regards to you.

Some of the riders left their motorcycles running while they warmed up and dried out inside the Hut. It would have been fairly easy to take off on one of them.

It's still on my list of things to do (ride down to Mexico and then up the Volcanoes).

Thanks, Patrick.

On another note: there were a few of us who were joking about comimg home "fatter" after all of the fine grub provided by Oso, Juan and Maribel... I'm +4...

Before I work on captions for the photos, I'll probably put together a "Lessons Learned" post that I hope the rest of the group will contribute to. There are a number of things that we could have done to make the trip even more of a success...

Richard, your pictures are wonderful... I'd have a hard time saying which are my favorite - the summit pics looking down on the clouds below were amazing, the beautiful sunsets, and I loved all the pics with everyone obviously having so much fun together!

RP, great photos as usual, thanks for sharing.
3 Qs;
1. what’s the controversy about Ixta true summit?
2. who had the best food at the Orizaba hut?
3. who’s the masked hombre? grin

Answer 3: That's me. I was too lazy to reach into the pack for my neck gaitor and just barely managed to keep the "nose" frostbite at bay with my bandana. (BTW: I know you know that...)

Answer 2: We need to have an episode of Titanium Chef with Oso/Maribel/Juan VS. April/Kurt/Miriam. IMG gets 3rd place, so they don't get in invite to the contest between OMG / SMI.

Answer 1: Jeff got Oso's take on the Ixta summit controversy, so I'll let him chime in...

I've read a few reports of climbers not knowing which highpoint to head to... Kurt heads to the "cross" highpoint, George Dunn heads to the one at the "middle" of the rim around to the "cross" and Oso commented to me that he thinks the entrance to the crater is the highpoint.

My take on the matter: It's a Catholic country, so I look for a cross...

If Wayne Pyle has some free time, maybe he can provide an answer... (I still haven't seen a topo map... Google maps didn't provide enough detail... The GPS coordinates that I found only went to 2 decimal places and I don't think that's accurate enough to locate the "true" summit.)

I'm 6ft 4" so I'm the true summit! LOL! I told Tim Medvetz at the Baldy Lodge he most likely might be the tallest person ever to summit Mt Everest so he was the true summit.

See you on Baldy this Saturday
