Can I return them?

j/k. I like the boots. They are going to be great on the NF side of the mountain. I just don't need boots that stiff on the Main Trail side. I also think Garmont is off on their sizing for this model. I'd definitely be in a 10 for colder climbs, so another pair of socks would fit in there.

Actually, the short-term project is 111 in 'll. (I told you I come up with stupid ideas.) Last weekend was 110x+.

I'm up the North Fork this morning and just saw that the tree that marks the start of the Rockwell Shortcut on the MR went down in the storm. So sad to see.

Maybe China Lake S & R led by Bob Rockwell could go up there & get the tree standing up again braced by cables to another tree?

Guess who I ran into on the lower section of the North Fork?

Doug is up here looking around...

Almost back at the Portal. Fun day!

I'll probably head down to Rattlesnake Peak so the day isn't a zero.

Hi Richard,
My total elevation gain today is about 9 feet.
My wife and I had a nice a few miles walk in Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve looking hundreds of wild birds along the trail and looking Mt. Baldy in distance. It looked like the snow is almost gone on south facing slope of Mt. Baldy.

We went Mt. San Jacinto yesterday and my total elevation loss/gain was about 30 feet by walking from the cable car station to the Long Valley. The snow was rather thin there, too.
The north facing slopes has thin snow around 7500 feet up.

It looks like we had a very dry winter. We need more snow.

So, I'm trying this again. Don't get worried if it doesn't work.

0210 Pull out of garage.
0215 Leave Spirit gas station.

Niice inversion layer: 26 in LP, 47 at LPCG, 36 at WP Store.

8 cars in the parking lot. It's going to be a party on Whitney.

0355 Heading up now.

Hi Reached peak 17322.799 this morning at 8: THIS MORNING 47 AM high winds, whiteout conditions answered a few cell calls about rooms at the hostel. Cayden, Doug Jr, Amy and Myles took summit photos and we walked back to the car . Richard P was up on the 26 th Dec, summit register is now down to a small tin can .

Richard was talking about a group hike, this peak would be a great option as a side trip. Or for some that want a short workout and a great view of the area . Hint a guy one time forced his daugthers to do the hike three times in the summer. But you have to stand on the rock to say you were on the summit.

Happy News years everyone! Another great year and I hope everyone has a GREATER 2012

I want to file a complaint with both AT&T and Verizon. Neither phone is worth a ^&** up there! I think I'm going to stop carrying the dead weight!

Had some guy smoke past me at the start of the slope up to Trail Crest. Ticked me off because he didn't even acknowledge I was there. He became real friendly when he couldn't find Mt. Muir...

"The only advice I can give you is to slow down and look for the BIG cairns on your left as you head down."

Walked down the Main Trail with David (transplanted from France) who had climbed up the MR. When asked about the conditions, he said it was sketchy, with a LOT of ice. (This from a man who is an outstanding Ice Climber.) I don't think I'll be on that side of the mountain until we have a lot more snow.

0508.

Shin likes these posts so I'm going to keep doing them.

I'm at my sponsor's place for breakfast. I'll be heading up the MT again.

RK - if you're in the area, I have some gear and a hat of yours.

RG - the forecast is calling for stiff winds on Sunday. The nearly full moon s/b setting around 0600, so it won't be pitch black for the start of the clinb.

KW - I've never been to TM in Jan, so I'll be heading thru Bishop. Let me know if you can do dinner on Sat. evening.

I'm up at the Portal now. Didn't pay much attention to the temps, other than it touched 50 on the way up and it is over freezing up here.

I'm trying some new Adidas boots today. They are the one's that BP magazine called an Editor's chice for winter gear. Essentially an insultated trail runner.

BTW: KW, implied in the invite is one for April. Hope you are available.
