I'll start off the list...

A buddy and I were talking about climbing back in September, 2010 and he asked if I were interested in Mt. Rainier in 2011? Well, duh! So, we signed up with International Mountain Guides and summitted Rainier on a picture-perfect July morning. Kudos to IMG for running a first-class operation. We were very pleased with the staff and itinerary.

My plans for 2012? Continuing my quest for the 50 state highpoints, Mt. Hood in June. That'll probably do it for 2012, though, with BSA and other commitments during the summer.

Slowing down as I age. Only 6 14ers this year vs 9 last year. Still in 53 years of climbing there have been a great many 14ers climbed, many repeats of course.

If my health permits, I plan on a bunch in 2012.

I went and climbed the toughest mountain in the North East - Mt. Katahdin. Several people on the route compared it favorably to Mt. Whitney.

Dude, there a day left in the year! Run up Icehouse Canyon and tag Timber.

The latest forecast is calling for fairly warm (and not very windy for a change) weather on Whitney, so I'm looking to add Muir and a few others to get to nnn. (You'll find out on Tuesday...)

More important than the numbers: the people who shared these climbs...

Started out the year on Mt. Baldy with a great group of friends and ended it mostly solo on our favorite mountain.

At the risk of qualifying for Doug's list of braggers:
- It's all Shin's fault... he wanted me to do at least 300. Sorry Shin.
- Calling some of these things peaks is a stretch...
- I came up 1 short on my last-minute adjustment to the "goal." (Where the heck is S' Brutal Tower?)
- 274 summits.
- 141 unique peaks (I desparately wanted this number to be more than half of the total.)
- 86 new peaks.

Highlights:
- Five Fingers and Mt. Baldy (most with Shin) in each month of the year.
- Shin on a motorcycle heading up to Five Fingers!
- 11 summits of Whitney in '11
- Oregon and Washington with RG and RK in July. Finally getting to the summit of Mt. Baker.
- Mexico in November

Richard that is a seriously impressive list. Shin and I had fun watching you climb this year and keeping track of your peak list.
Here's to adventures in 2012 although I won't be able to get out as much due to wife I do want to come up and finally bag Russell and Muir and do a speed ascent of Langley and Whitney.
We'll have fun watching and following your 2012 project....

Hi Richard,
Happy New year !!
Thanks to you,I was able to hike Bear canyon/flat trail of Mt.Baldy 12 times last year. Now the trail became my favorite trail in Mt. Baldy even though it is a very hard trail with 6000 feet elevation gain in 6 miles. I used to hike this trail only once or twice in a year or I tried to avoid it. But you made me hike in very heavy snow in early spring, very hot summer, windy fall, and cold winter. Not only hiking to the summit of Mt. Baldy but also you added a few other peaks on the same hike for more distance and elevation. You stayed behind me to keep on pressuring me to hike up to the summit. Hiking with you helped me to improve my physical and mental endurance. That was the best training experience ever for me. Even though I am getting older year after year, you helped me to become a better hiker than 2010. I knew that it must have been very frustrating to hike with a person with less ability than you are. I am very grateful to you to put up with me. Your ability and experience didn't come from bookshelf. It came from your each steps on the trail of every peaks and hills of 2011 list.
Looking forward to hiking with you this year as well.

Don't forget to take a rest once in a while.

Shin

I spent some time at Peakbagger.com looking for info on S'brutal Tower and it turns out I climbed to the "summit" of it and somehow missed Aiguille Junior.

I did more local peakbagging this year. I had 97 summits of 65 different mountains (30 in VA, 22 in CA, 8 in MD, 4 in PA and 1 in NV). Only 37 of the peaks were new to me; I would like to raise that number in 2012. There are still some major peaks near Mt. Whitney that I haven’t climbed yet (LeConte, McAdie, etc.), and I intend to focus on them this summer. Here I’ll just list the CA peaks I climbed in 2011:

Horseshoe Peak
Edge of the World Peak
Trailmaster
Peak 12417
Peak 12525
Cirque Peak
Mt. Gould
Mt. Whitney
Mt. Muir
Discovery Pinnacle
Rattlesnake Hill
The Fin
Woollyback
Thatcher Point
Owens Point
Peak 11297
Thor Peak
Mt. Carillon
Wells Peak x 5
Peak 10603 x 2
Lost Cannon Peak x 2
Peak 10490

Somewhere in between raising a 2 year old and keeping my employment 2011 was a good climbing year as well. RP's list (and 500K gain) put me to shame, but a few highlights.

Spent loads of time exploring the greater Shepherds Pass area, fun late sept climb of Trojan included traversing the nifty floating snow bridge on LHOT and great pics as I just beat the first snow of the season back to the bowl.

Trying to keep up with RP, Yeti and Shin on Langley dayhike. Seriously, couldn't it finish downhill?

-25 and hours of melting ice at Trail Camp with T-Bone

The Moose (not THAT Moose) following my wife and I up Grays & Torreys.

More Sandstone Peak climbs with the little one, now that she will be 3 she has to start getting out beyond the SM mountains. Let's get with the program :-)

I'd love to get on the Mexico trip in 2012 but we'll have to wait another year. Looking forward to more Cascades, more winter trips (snow please?), Great Western Divide peaks and trying to do some fishing in '12.

Happy New Year Everyone!
