I finally got around to upload the pictures from my Nov 1 dayhike to the summit. This just after (I believe) the first major snow of the season. There are 200 pictures here.

The night before (Oct 31), there was not a trace of snow on the road. On Nov 1, an inch at most. But I heard it has snowed more after that.

Great Pictures. We are going to Diaz Lake this weekend for a quicky fishing trip. Judging by your picture it should be BEAUTIFUL. Thanks for the pix.

ttesterman, it was a great trip. Mostly all sun all the way until I reached the summit, where the clouds finally cought up with me.

Trailslug, yes, I had the top all for myself. I did not see a single person since the 96 switchbacks and then again not until trailcamp. Reminds me of my trip along the Franconia ridge (in NH) two weeks before which is usually very crowded and I was all by myself there as well.

Audiograce, it took me 17 hours. I am not sure how much the snow affected me as I never been here before. I also spend the night before at Lone Pine coming from Los Angeles, so I did not really have much acclimitazion. This meant that they way up took much much longer. Especially the last switch backs. I had to stop all the time and take deep breaths and make sure I was fine. Then I used sneakers all the way to trail crest. There I finally switched to my boots smile

WhitWalker, I used my more than 4 year old Olympus 2000. Has served me very well through winter, rain and whatever weather I have come across. Very happy with it. Still looking for a good replacement.

Great shots. I don't think I've seen anyone take as many pictures of the trail so well before. As the pictures got closer to the summit I found myself clicking faster, so we could get to the summit before the clouds moved in. We (you) didn't make it.

What kind of camera did you use?

Thanks

Birk,

You did it. You made me foam at the mouth. Those were not only the best pics I've seen so far of Whitney, they're some of the best climbing pics I've seen, period. I sent them to my brother. His reply: " I want to go NOW !! "

Thanks so much for taking the time to take and every one of those shots.
