Doug,
And a Damm good tip it is!!
I called late Saturday afternoon, got a warm body on the
other end of the line, had my application number off the
Rec.gov website and after a 10-15min. wait, was told
DENIED! cry I asked if I'll be receiving confirmation of that via
internet on or about the 26th March and was told, "Yes". No biggie,
got my brother and others applying too and I can always do the
walk-in to the Ranger Station the day before.
Follow the number in the upper right hand corner of their website,
follow the various phone prompts, wait a few minutes and YOU too can
probably find outgrin
Since I'm at the base of San Gorgonio (Got 2-3 inches Saturday night in upper Yucaipa) it's no big deal to make the drive up to Lone Pine.

Is this lottery 100% automated now, or do they still have a warm body somewhere in the pipeline double-checking each application before they charge the credit card?

There haven’t been any more posts from people saying that they had activity on their charge cards since the 16th. My brother hasn’t had any activity on his card from recreation.gov yet, so we’re getting a little nervous.

My question is - does anyone know if all the applications were processed on the 16th? Obviously a computer could process all the applications in a matter of minutes.

He could call the permitting office, but they’re probably really scrambling to finalize everything and the telephone interruptions don’t help… I just wondered if anyone knows if the application-drawing part of the lottery is complete.

Rosabella, my card did not show the $15 pp cc charge until this morning. I too was very nervous so I called the card company and asked if there were any pending charges from recreation.gov and they confirmed there were two charges! From my understanding, the lottery draw is complete and we will get official notice on Monday 3/26.

According to the recreation.gov website, there are still some day permits available in June and a few days in July.

Best of luck!!

Thanks, that's encouraging. I guess we just need to take a deep breath and wait... they either have a permit or they don't, and we'll find out by next week.

I've already got my JMT permit, but some of my brothers were hoping to get day permits to meet me on the summit.

The charges on my card were pending over the weekend but did not post until 3/19.

Called the recreation.gov phone number and the warm body stated they won't be informing anyone of results until March 26th. My cc was hit so I asked them if that meant I was successful in the draw, and she said "it's a possibility"!

Woohoo!!!! My family got permits!! (well, at least the CC was charged)

I've got my JMT permit and I'm scheduled to exit via Whitney on August 11th, and some of my brothers and a sister will meet me on the summit!! I know that the day is correct, because they only put in for the one day I was scheduled to exit. I am pretty happy about this! laugh

Here's another woohoo too! Glad this is working out for you. I may also try and sneak up there. It would be fun to see your family again. A great group to hang with.

Well, "The most frustrating evening ever" that started this thread, has been rewarded. There is a charge on my credit card!! Now, I'll just have to wait to find out the date.

Thanks to everyone who shared their own frustrations with the new application process, & gave me encouragement along the way! Now, if I can just do this 2 more years, I'll have a shot at making my 20th climb for my 70th birthday.

Happy Trails to all!
