Up the MR.

Climbs like summer now. Only a bit of ice.

Windy!

Looks like lots of guided groups.

My wife just called. She's glad to hear I coming down tonight.

Almost back down at the Portal.

I have to tell you - I really am getting tired of the wind!

I'm not counting anymore, but I think we figured out that this was 124x+ at lunch today.

This is an amazing streak, Richard. Are you going again on the 31st? I've never day-hiked it in March, and I was thinking about correcting that.

I'm actually thinking about the 30th and April Fool's Day. I think Friday will be a suffer fest on the MT with the new snow, but I might let you convince me to head up the MR.

Richard:

I may have a horse-related commitment, and I want to make sure we can get close to the portal with 2WD. If those issues don't keep me at home, I'll try to meet you Friday morning. (5:00 at McDonald's?)

I'm real curious to see what this storm did. It sure was nasty on the drive home yesterday.

5:00 at McD's sounds like a good plan. It'll be light by the time we hit the Ledges.

Hello.. I'm a new member but haven't been able to post due to network traffic. Now it seems to have opened up! Been reading all the wonderful adventures of what seems to be a great group of true wilderness enthusiasts. I've been trying to do the MR as a day hike for a while now.. Was thinking about Friday myself. I can finally use the 4x4 on my Tacoma since purchasing her in Oct. As for the MR, not sure how far I'll get up in a day but can't hurt to try. Looks like I may be following your tracks. (btw, if Patrick and/or Sam, who I met on the way up the chute at Gorgonio on the Mar 16 are reading this.. hello guys!)

Richard:

I'm in for Friday. My "horse-related commitment" didn't materialize, the weather looks decent, and I'm guessing we won't have to park too far from the Portal with a 2WD. See you at 5:00 at McDonald's unless you hear otherwise.

Happytrails:

We'll probably stat hiking around 6:30. I tend to move faster than most, and Richard moves faster than I do. We wouldn't mind some extra company, but you shouldn't count on us to hang back if you're a bit slower. Sounds like you may just go as high as you can and turn around, so that shouldn't be a problem.

My SPOT link is on my profile in case anybody is bored enough to want to follow our progress.

Friday is the only day of the week in the forecast that doesn't show WIND (I probably just jinxed us).

Hoping that it is right on the mark..... The warm temps might make for a slog back down to the Portal though.

Also hoping that the road work hasn't started up yet (to get the road open for the season opening in a month). I'm betting the road is mostly dry all the way up past the WPS.

Don't blame you... if there is any wind on the suumit at this time of year, it feels damn cold up there.

Thanks for the invite Bob. (I will be honored just to be left in your dust...) The friday weather forecast is looking very favorable. I'm guessing there will be quite a few cars at the trail head that day. I plan on driving in after work tomorrow evening and sleeping at the trailhead. If you see my truck, please stop by and say hello.

The Forest Service/Fire Authority are doing controlled burns. The only ice left is the picnic parking on the other side of the pond. Just hope they don't park the big bulldozer across the road at the hairpin turn. wink

Where are you.

We're up at LBSL. BP & HT.

We're now up above UBSL. Too hot for my taste.

Now above iceberg in the couloir.

Yes it was hot. A long slushy slog I don't care to do again any time soon.
