Been to the top before. Got blocked out this year, requested days denied.
Was wondering how many folks have walked in and received overnight
permits for the Main Trail year? Plan on making a week day trip and the
drive up from So. Cal. is not that bad but,..... Want to Peak with the wife
again this year. We've got some time in July to play with and I understand
that nothing is for sure at the Inyo office when you walk in the day before
entry. ¡Muchos Thank You to all who read and respond!

My friend and I drove up on June 24th, and went to the Visitor's Center first thing on Monday the 25th. We got two walk-in ovrnight permits no problem, and spent five days on the mountain, with a successful summit on the 27th (my 13th overall). As you can see from the link that shows all unused permits for 2012, you should have no problem in getting a walk-in. My suggestion though is to go for a weekday permit versus the weekend. I think you stand a much greater chance of success.

I used to enter the lottery every year, but now that I am retired, I will just drive up from now on and get walk-ins.
