Here's a question for anyone who loves the Sierras, especially folks like Doug, Richard P., and Bob R. who have tromped along every trail up there: If you were in perfect health but only had one more week to live, what trail would you pick as your final Sierra experience?

I'm very biased toward a certain Sierra peak (my eponymous peak) so I'd start in Yosemite, go up Half Dome on the way and head south to Mt. Ritter, via Thousand Island Lake, Garnet Lake and end up at Ediza Lake so I could finish off atop my favorite peak. Not as high as Whitney (only about 13,150') but a great climb and spectacular views from the top.

(Yes, it took me seven tries to make it to the top of "my" mountain but it was worth it in the end. I look forward to going back there one of these summers and leading my son up to the top or "our" peak.)

For me, I would spend the night on the summit of Whitney (have already done so twice), just to catch one last awesome sunset and sunrise. Whitney Mike
