A friend of mine and I were thinking of driving up this Friday (the 19th) from Santa Barbara and heading up to Horseshoe Meadows. Our ultimate goal would be to try and get to Langley as a multi-day trip. First of all, I wanted to see if the road to Horseshoe Meadows is open, or is the snow level low enough to have the road closed? We were going to camp Friday at Horseshoe, then head up to High Lake on Saturday. Sunday would have us go over New Army Pass, so I was looking for updated trail conditions that anyone might have and if New Army Pass is passible or not? Since it is at about 12,300 feet, again maybe the snow has blocked it at the top. Then finally, the final class 2 route to Langley, would we need crampons or maybe get by with microspikes? Thank you for any assistance that anyone might be able to provide.

Wide open, NAP looked clear, some snow on Langley but probably not enough for crampons yet.

Cirque Peak, NAP, and Langley in the background (from the shoulder of Trail Peak):

Road was completely clear this past weekend.

Are you and Whitehair the culprits heading up there this weekend?? You two have a good and safe journey!

Hugs to you both, and Gary, be sure to say howdy to Danielle for me!! I still have a few No Whining stickers that I need to make into new signs... wink

Best,
L

Laura:

Yes, Gary Whitehair and I are heading up this Friday to try and get one last backpack trip in this year. One nice thing about being retired is we can go whenever we want.

Anyway, the plan is to camp Friday at Horseshoe, Saturday and Sunday at High Lake, then come out on Monday the 22nd. As always, we will have a nice dinner that night at Season's, so if you want to come on down and join us, we would love to see you.

Mike
