http://piotrowski.smugmug.com/Whats-New-1/Mt-Langley-August-26-2012/25040847_Zp3KHLYou can see it in summer this album. You should ask Doug about this route. It's a fun alternative to the two main ways up. Would have been nice to have a bit more/better snow. Summer sand makes it good workout. Doc, always love the quotes.

The real secret to the Secret Route is to run from buried rock to buried rock...
I'm waving for the Web Cam...
Edit...Thor via the Secret Route is only about three miles...
Beautiful summit. Whitney and Russell look splendid!

Richard, do you have a log of each section, including THs, distance & time?
Did you go from HM to Shepherd, or was that from Portal? What about Baxter? I recall you went north from OV, but don't remember your exit point.

http://www.whitneyportalstore.com/forum/...=true#Post91812The above link has the stats and links to photo albums for the way I did the JMT Section Hikes. There are probably better ways... Doug and I had several discussions about Trailheads, but I just stuck to what Rick Graham had suggested (with the exception of Whitney to Shepherd and Shepherd to Onion Valley... which I only did because I didn't feel comfortable with the amount of water flowing at Tyndall Creek on Day One) a number of years ago. In order to say that I've done the PCT from Walker Pass to Yosemite, I'm going to have to get that one section "above" Red's Meadow where the PCT and JMT split, but I have walked all the way to Yosemite. The PCT sections were mostly just workouts out of my home in Ridgecrest. I've done Walker Pass to the Owens Peak Saddle more times than I can count, I did a section from the Mine in Indian Wells Canyon to Lamont Point, I've done Canebrake Road to Lamont Point a couple of times, I did Kennedy Meadows Campground to Canebrake Road as a workout prepping for the JMT Sections, Kennedy Meadows (north) 20-miler as a workout, that "highpoint" on the PCT to the Olancha Pass Junction a few days ago out of Monache Meadow (which was probably the MOST fun because of the ride in and the ease of getting it done, and then Horseshow Meadow (over Mulkey Pass) to Sage Flat on Saturday. BTW: it is so dry that I'd say there's no water "below" HM unless you're willing to work pretty hard for it. I saw a couple of muddy "seeps"/springs, but with no filter, I wouldn't have touched that stuff with a ten-foot pole.

Got it - great link. I was going to ask if you ever overnighted, but I see you did on @ least one occasion.
At your rate, you could do the entire JMT in 5 days or so - probably set a record for the age group.

I always love it when 'your age group' gets in the mix !!!
When I get a little money, I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes. Erasmus

I think Scott M and a bunch of other really fast people are in my age group... Besides, my right knee is wrecked... But thanks for the comment.

If your right knee is wrecked, then maybe you'll slow down to 1/2 your average mileage. Guys like me can put up 20 miles (on good days) over a short period of time, but 40 is la la land.
If you had a handicap, you might find yourself some company.

Just left T.I.L. Finishing that PCT segment by doing a JMT->PCT Loop. Awesome, but hazy because of smoke.
Edit: Just saw a bear in broad daylight...told him to head to the Portal for an easier time of it.
BTW: Snow!

Richard was so tired AND STRESSED from Scully's White Maiden Walkway Variation that he couldn't make it home yesterday...
Nice creative route-finding Jeff. Very nice Lead all the way up to the top! Congratulations on the First Pitch on the Lush Green Crack!
Gotta tell you that I wanted to wring your neck when I climbed out of the top of that tree and saw that above me. Where the hell is Scilly taking us now????? But, it was FUN!

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger...I'm not to worried reading all the beta and talking to people who have led it it's easy to get off track on that climb. We were on route looking at topo all but the last two pitches.
