Or, like me, you sleep in to a more reasonable hour and then just blast up in some amazingly fast time.

Who picked this start time anyway?
Shin doing a presentation at A16 afterwards?

I am actually thinking about it. I'd have to fly down, though, and find pup care. What kind of winter conditions are we talking about (I have not done Baldy)? Snowshoes? Ice axe/crampons? Avy gear? And if ice axe/crampons, how bad is the exposure?

Thanks.

Could someone take pity on a Northerner and fill in some details re conditions? (With all the flooding here, I could probably just float south at the moment.)

Doug, are you going?

Hi I will drive down the night before and may head up before the start time. Condition will change by the day until we go up but overall conditions are first two miles should be on light snow cover after the hut could be fresh snow packed trail that may be icy. If enough snow we could take the bowl up using crampons and ice ax , but on the edge of the bowl through the trees you can avoid the steep bowl and the avalanche risk somewhat. Watch the Baldy thread as we get updates daily from either Shin or Mark or others that do the trail often.

The hike is somewhat steep but we go slow enough that every one makes it. Distance is about 4 miles , hardest part of the hike is getting to the start. The roads are not marked that clear and very dark , so I always say when you get to the ski area parking lot turn around and drive down hill about 1/2 mile? Depending on where you stay might carpool with someone Thanks Doug

Okay, I am in. Baldy's be on "the list" for a while...just figured I'd do a summer ascent first. Looks like Ontario is the best airport.

Doug, if you don't mind company, I'd like to do the earlier start so that I can take my time going up. If there is a pre-meet up place to which it is easier to navigate, and from which I could caravan to the TH, that might make things easier.

Psyched up to hit Baldy, meet some more WPSMB folks, reunite with those I already know!

If it works, would be great to catch a ride. I booked some flights (I tend to decide something and then jump right in), though they can be changed.

Arriving Friday on Southwest at 7:10 p.m. I got a flexible ticket,though, so can arrive earlier (4 p.m.) or later (10:05 p.m.)

Booked to leave Sunday morning at 8:35 a.m.. Figure I can stay at an airport hotel.

Now I can think about the fun stuff (food, clothing, equipment, more food).

I am SOOOO looking forward to this... seeing everyone again, and meeting Joyce and some of the others whom I've not met yet. Karin (Akichow), I'm glad you're going to be able to make it, I didn't get much of a chance to talk to you at the get-together last month, but I really enjoy your posts.

Jeff, could you please add my brother Ken to the list. I'm not sure about any of my other brothers at this point.

I'm actually really glad that it's an early start time... Saturday evening is the family Christmas Party in Escondido, so I may not be able to stay for the lunch at the lodge afterwards. Ken and I will be driving up together.

Will we need permits?
