oops, I misunderstood. I will not likely arrive until fri evening late at the Lodge, so I will not walk around shaking any tents in the dark up the road. See you at trailhead 600 Sat

Harvey, sounds like plenty of people will be driving past the Lodge so if you wave your sign around someone will surely stop. smile This time of year most of the people at that time will be part of this group. I was just up on Saturday and only saw 7 people on the summit.
Karin, good idea on the stove, I'll toss my Jetboil and some things to flavor the water into the pack too. Anyone for Scotch in the morning?

I confess that I've packed a little something special to ward away the cold. Not bringing the stove, though. Staying by the airport, carpooling in the a.m.

T-3 and counting.

So sorry to hear that Mark! We were looking forward to seeing you again. Good luck to your daughter with both the surgery and recovery. Hope to see you on the trail again sometime.

Trace, I have a special request. Please make those nutty cookies...I think they were Pecan Sandies or something like that. I just remember they were quite tasty that day we met you and Talus at the hut (waiting for TrailBud). I would gladly reimburse you! If not, we should make them when you come up for New Years!

If anyone is concerned about road conditions, a friend of mine is going to his cabin in Icehouse Canyon today and said he will provide me with a report by tomorrow night when he's back in cell phone, wi-fi range. He said last night's storm did put some snow on the ground, so he's going to scope out the forest and get everything ready for his party on Sat. He doesn't think chains will be needed as long as there is no more snowfall before Saturday morning. However, he doesn't sound very encouraged by the forecast for the upcoming series of storms rolling in. I will let y'all know when I get his report.

I know some of you may not care because you're used to it, but I am totally new to this and not prepared for driving in snowy or icy conditions. The thought of driving in that on a winding mountain road freaks me out. eek

I've got my microspikes, though. grin

Hi Joyce,
I'll drive up Baldy road tomorrow morning to check out the road condition and I'll post it by early afternoon.

The road is usually well maintained for local business. I used a snow cable to my Camry only twice in last 8 years. The road is very safe and manageable even average passenger cars.

If you don't feel comfortable to drive on wet road, you can carpool with someone from Mills ave parking which is located at corner of Mt.Baldy road and Mills ave.
Mills avenue is one city block east on Baseline from Baseline off ramp of 210 FWY. You will see VONS,opens 5:00a.m. with Starbucks, at south-east corner. Take Mills ave to north about 1/2 mile then you see a parking lot at north east corner then take Mt. Baldy road to Manker flat.

Or, I'll be at VONS at 5:30 a.m. to pick up Richard P.. My car is full with other friends so you can follow me from VONS to Manker. The road is safe so don't worry.

I'm happy to give a lift up the hill to anyone who may need it, just reply here or PM. Forecast did adjust a bit and looks like we may get a bit more freshie on Friday night. It's cold even at the beach today....looking forward to it.

I got a fresh batch of pecans from Georgia and planned on making those pecan shortbread cookies. I remember everyone liked them! I am also going to make some old fashioned hot cocoa. I think I'm going to be hauling up a backpack! LOL!!

I have room for one passenger if anyone wants a ride up the hill.
