Bye...
Only on Leg 2 of 4 and know I couldn't do this on a regular basis anymore.
Looking forward to seeing family in Bangkok. (Still 2 days away on the calendar.)

Wow what a great trip! Karen and Richard, I will have to live vicariously through you till I have the time to get over there. How awesome!

So, I'm sitting here in Seoul, surfing their free Internet (and I'm softening my damn Koreans tone caused when they forced me to close my window shade when I was really, really enjoying looking down at the frozen Bering Sea - which I understood much better after reading the book Doc and his wife gave me after Mexico - titled ICE. (Should I close parens here?)
Missed seeing Shasta, Hood, Rainier, etc because I was on the wrong side of the plane.
Seeing Siberia was cool. How do people live there? (I want to find out...)
Seeing the Yellow Sea at Sunset was cool too. Give me a boat so I can go check out some of those islands.
BTW: want an FA? There's probably a million between Alaska and Siberia...
Got an email from Heather... we missed connecting by a couple of hours, so KT's clothes aren't with me, but I do have most of the Speciality Food he requested. (I think KT must be one of those health fanatics :-) I am going to make him explain the stuff before I turn it over.
Leg THREE is about to start ...

Thanks, I'll try my best to have a good, safe time...
Had the most fun visiting with family in Bangkok... What a bunch of troopers... I didn't arrive until after midnight and we stayed up past 2.
Jaq is a beautiful teenager now. She has a 4 yo bother who's a real handsome man (there's a bit of a Thai joke in that.)
Managed to lose my passport this morning, so I got to do two trips thru customs... including the escort out.
Heading for Leg 4. Didn't get a seat on the right side of the plane... Bummer!

Which side of the plane do you recommend for each leg?

I'm awake and getting ready for the fun ride to the Annapurna region.
I still hate Kathmandu... I could babble on... Not worth it... I'm heading into the mountains now.
Right side going in... Left side heading home.
KW was right about dirt cheap data and voice over here... Less than $.1 to talk to my wife for quite a while. 1 TB of data for about $5 (they are giving double bonuses for both plans right now.)

How did you set up data? I was going to buy a data package from my provider but sounds like you have a better way.

Davey there still time for you to get over here for the second or third trek I plan to do.
Karin KW suggested NCell. They can now cut your SIM to fit a smartphone or tablet. My problem was the key to opening the MS Slot. Had to have a seamstress help me with a needle because a regular tool doesn't work.
BTW you need to have an unlocked phone.
I'm up in Besi Sahar now for the night. Didn't feel like walking. Wow this place is big now!
+++++++++
There was a Tata on its side... didn't have the nerve to look. You can see my SPOT messages in the where's Richard thread.

Hi Richard I dont know what your plans are but I highly reccy the trekking peaks of Island Peak (up the Khumbu behind Ama Dablam) and Mera Peak (land Lukla but go up next remote valley to the east)...both easily arrangeable from Kathmandu.
A side trip off the Khumbu trail: If you're in the Pangboche area, you can do an easy walk-up to Camp 1 @ 17,500' on my favorite mtn Ama Dablam (it gets technical thereafter) for gr8 views of the surrounding cirque and distant massif of Baruntse. The Ama Dablam BC is probly the most luxurious in the Himalaya with its flat grassy field @ 15,000 ft.
Look forward to your pics and stories as always

Unlocked phone, sigh. I am a slave to my locked iPhone. Time to think outside the box.

Yet another reason why this is such an awesome place to visit! Live feeds from Nepal and Patagonia from friends! Looking forward to hearing about it and the pics.

Doug I only brought one puffy and a light sleeping bag. The rest of my weight is all high-tech...maybe the batteries will generate enough heat to keep me warm.
Mr. Moon I've been above camp one on Ama Dablam a couple of times (and the NW Ridge route too... which is a lot more technical). It is a fabulous area.
I've never seen Langtang outside of the monsoon so that will probably be trek two with the rest of my time spent running around the Khumbu looking for Akichow...
Oh Doug they have high speed Internet up here too. I hope the work you're doing on D395 helps relieve some of the embarrassment the US should feel about services to rural areas.

I'm a woose.... I'm sitting here waiting for a bus heading up canyon... in my own defense, why would I want to walk when I can be driven?
BTW I may be losing contact for a week or more... according to a local I'll probably lose service a short way up the canyon.
I have a pretty lame album at my Smugmug site. http://piotrowski.smugmug.com/Other/Nepal-Spring-2013/28274230_c6bdcd#!i=2392291241&k=hj35Nzh
I thought I put a link in my other post.
