Hi Snacking Bear,
I really enjoyed your detailed trip report very much.
Since I did it in May so I can appreciate what you went through. Personally, I tried to ignore every negative things happening in my body during the hike in order to continue on so I couldn't remember any details which you described so well.

I am glad that you had a very special time with your dad.

Thank you for sharing your great trip with us.

Awesome trip report, Snacking Bear. My husband and I now have another hike to put on our bucket list.

Great report. I took a couple days to read it (work gets in the way sometimes) but definitely worth the time. Sounds like a great trip and your reflection at the end was the perfect finish.

Very nice, Snacking Bear. Your trip report makes me want to give it a try. But I am curious, why didn't you start from the North Rim and hike to the South Rim? I am guessing it would have been much easier.

I'm glad you've enjoyed it!

The elevation gain at the end of the day would have been less, but the overall distance would have been greater, If we went North to South we would need to ascend via the longer Bright Angel Trail, as opposed to the South Kaibab, the SK is waterless.

Also the South Kaibab is more scenic than the Bright Angel, the thought of seeing the SK at dawn was too much to resist.

Ultimately, if I was in the business of doing easier things I'd have probably settled on avoiding hiking entirely wink

I've done the rim to rim 3 times, 2x south to north, 1x north to south. In my opinion, south to north feels easier because going N to S you have all your elevation gain at the very end while S to N you gain a lot of elevation gradually before you ever start the real climb. In any case, there's no bad way to do the GC.
