Hey Rosie, glad you made it down to Cali safely... I'll bet that train ride was fun... I love train rides.

(Being cryptic... I did a 9+ group off of a bench this morning... If you think you've ever seen me with a big smile, you should see the one I've got going on right now.)

I am bringing a motorcycle on Saturday... and my loud, obnoxious, orange t-shirt that should fit in perfectly with the season (being sarcastic here).

Well, mid October 2013 sees clear days and frosty nights in the forecast, as high amplitude ridging over Western Canada stays in place. We should see nighttime temps in the mid 30s for the Owens Valley and the teens to low 20s for Mono County, for the next few days. Daytime highs should run at seasonal values. Also gusty conditions today, in some places, as a shortwave drops through the Great Basin. The above mentioned ridge looks to stay in place through this weekend, for very nice October weather.

Looks like Manzanar will open JUST in time. The shutdown appears to be, well, shutting down. Or shutting up. Or something.

Fingers crossed.

If not, I am thinking the Lone Pine Film History Museum may be a good alternative.

Stay tuned....

Very cool Tracie. I'll keep an eye out for them.

Jeffmmmmmm;
Will the climbing group meet at the Hostel prior to the event or is there a specific rock formation where you will congregate?

Thanks Dave!! I'm sure going to miss you this weekend... I think this is going to be the first group hike I'll be on that you weren't there also! Take care of yourself, and I'll see you on the next group hike for sure!!

Tracie, Ken and I are driving up early on Saturday morning, so we'll watch for the mules... thanks for the "heads up"!

Karin, I hope you're right about the shutdown... for a LOT of reasons! We were planning on going to the Film Museum when we get into town Saturday morning, but I'll keep an eye on the Shutdown-shutdown progress, and if looks like Manzanar won't be opened, we'll wait 'til later and go with anyone else that's interested.

Shutdown is OVER. Furloughed federal employees are returning to work Thursday.

I'll confirm when the Manzanar website is back online, but I think we are golden.

We'll be sacking out in the hills tomorrow night, but will need nourishment from the A-Hills Cafe prior to committing to the rock. People will be heading to several spots to climb while we're shenaniganing (say that five times fast) away on the new stuff. I'm thinking 7:00am for food and the climbing assignments, but we can pop our heads in at the hostel afterward to see who's milling about...

Oh, I'm bringing a large Caesar salad, and there should be another veggie dish coming, along with something sorely missing from the menu: chocolate!

Hoping that Mountain Ginger has worked out her road/car troubles, and that we will have the pleasure of her AND her pies.....

Meanwhile, I've parked myself a mere 150 miles north of Lone Pine for the night, figure I'll roll into town about 11:30a.m. or so tomorrow. Thinking I'll hit up the Alabama Hills cafe for lunch if I can find a safe place to park the pooch. So anyone who is around, I'll poke my head in the hostel before going over to lunch.

Then meeting folks at 1 p.m. at the Hostel to go over to Manzanar.

See y'all soon.

Good luck this time Carole!
Did you beat some sense into your mechanic...
or just beat him senseless?

Karin, I'm at the hostel. Would love to join you for lunch. I'll go into the lobby around 11:30.
