The weather looks like it will be perfect on Baldy Friday. Sunny, comfortably cool but not cold, and light wind. See you there!

It was dry, sunny with a light breeze, an absolutely beautiful day - Just as BurtW predicted.
Such a great day to be out & playing.
Trail was dry with streams lightly trickling.
No snow to speak of - only tiny patches in areas of protected shade.

Helio strut marks in dirt on summit. (fo-realz)

It was a perfect day on Baldy! Or it would have been if someone hadn't taken my lifetime senior pass out of my car. Since there were no signs of forced entry I assume I put my keys in my pack without clicking the clicker, leaving the door unlocked. That still means that someone was going around the parking area trying doors to see if they were locked and they lucked out on mine.

Burt,
Added insult would have been a ticket for not displaying your pass.
I actually have two lifetime sr. passes because I forgot mine when flying and then renting a car and had to purchase another (only $10.00), now all the non srs can be envious and want to live a long life.

Happy Birthday BurtW !!
We made your official birthday hike today.
Sorry to hear about your senior pass.

Abbas, Masuod, and Mani have rebuilt the main rock windbreaker today.

Several volunteers from San Gabriel trail builder were making great improvement on class 3 section of trail below Ski hut.
They have done an excellent jobs. Thank you all.

Looking forward to seeing you on the trail.

Joyce (Hyker Girl), MC and I went up Falling Rock Canyon yesterday. Joyce was a SUPER TROOPER while going out of her comfort zone and never giving up - even when I took them on what I (mistakenly) thought was Frank and Mark's shortcut on the descent.

A fun day with a couple of wonderful friends.

A little Class 3 action:

So what was that tiny sliver of white in the vertical crack between the front edge of my dashboard and the panel below the windshield? Using a nail file, I first managed to knock it further down into the void and finally to get a corner of it high enough to snag it. My senior pass! Since the NFS office was closed today for Veterans Day I hadn't had a chance to replace it. Except for the egg on my face all's well.

I would simply blame the gremlins - they took and moved the permit. I do it all of the time with my car keys, the checkbook, etc...

The 'top' gremlin at my house is Riley (our dog), followed by my 15 month old son. I had to wear trail runners to work 2 days last week because I couldn't figure out where Riley put my sneakers (my punishment for not getting him out on the trails lately I suppose). If we leave keys (or other important items) on the coffee table, they're likely to end up in the toy box. The kiddo likes to play with them, then throws them in there when he's done. I didn't believe he was doing it, but I caught him in the act the other day crazy

Scott, you are absolutely right. I put the permit on the dash. How did it slide forward and fall into the crack? Had to be gremlins.

In my defense I'll say I didn't understand why, if someone got into my car they didn't take anything else. So I spent a long time looking under the seats, in my pockets, in all the cubbies, in any place I could think of. I decided the only answer was a thief when I ruled out every other possibility - except the possibility that it had slid down into that crack.

I would rather have egg on my face than have to accept that a thief was working the Manker parking area.

It's bad enough there's someone doing malicious things on the summit, I was hoping the same wasn't starting at the trailhead. Good thing!

Shin will be taking care of me on Thanksgiving morning...
It may be a "winter climb"...
Keep in mind that it will be a SLOW ascent no matter what the conditions are...
It took me 3 hours to get up last time...
I've done Round Trips faster than that in the past...
But, we don't get to Rest On Our Laurels.

Probably around 7:30am for the start from Manker.

An early morning Thanksgiving day hike on Baldy has been a tradition for me for a few years now. A great way to burn calories before dinner and very few people.
The perfect plan for me is to arrive home just as the Turkey is finished cooking.
See you near the summit.

Any guesses regarding what time you will reach the summit? If I don't hike Skyline Friday or Saturday, the mutt and I may try to meet everyone up there. I'm a plodder, so I'd need to start earlier. blush

Desiree, Louise, Pascal, Frank and I hit the trail at 6:45 to a great day of hiking. 28deg at the hut and 28deg at the summit. Des,Pascal and I went up the main bowl to a good work out, the deepest was 6 to 10 inches deep in are boot prints. And no wind on summit, a very nice day, light snow falling at the hut in the morning and light snow falling back down to the road in the afternoon..
Just another bitchen day on Baldy
