Hi So lets go way past where the other group built the Igloo, all the way to the store. Then set up in the nice flat area on our upper lot in the shade and have the patio which is snow free most year for a cooking area.

If anyone wants to go into the North fork it would be a easy option for a day hike as far as they can stand (enjoy) maybe some ice climbing above Lower Boyscout Lake or ice skating and rock throwing on the portal pond like I see people do. The real treat will be a trip to the ice cave at the top of the falls!

Richard is back!!! Fully recovered......

Jeff bring back the count on the first winter hike where so many died we had to cancel all future attempts or even considering another , well you know "those other people still went" but they were lucky!

Candlelight was milk toast compared to the winter climb. We got a lot of milage out of that one!

Side note I have had several emails from the wounded warriors lately and they plan a trip up in the area for some pre Everest training.

Hey Jack and Besty will be up the First week of Jan. We can trick them into carring loads to the store as training trips for us, I will tell Besty I found flowers the other day. I did but they were in LA at the Florist.

OK off to do odd jobs Thanks everyone. Be safe and hope to see you in Mammoth this next few weeks Doug Jr just bought some new ski's. I will get the hand me downs . Not sure the leather straps on the bindings are any good, might upgrade to the springs this year.

When I get a little money, I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes.

Recipe for a Warring Faction

2 cups of bad timing
1/2 cup of loose lips
2 teaspoons of good intentions
1 teaspoon of bad blood
1 oz. adrenaline
3 oz. hormones
1 bruised ego

Preheat oven to 90 degrees. Bring a minimum of 10 chefs into the kitchen to give input on the proper way to combine all the ingredients. Leave the kitchen and lock the door. Go on a hike with friends. Don't come back.

...One more addition:

Apon reaching summit, observe flames in the distance.

Maybe if/when we have a roaring campfire at the upcoming Portal igloo-fest (but not too close to the igloo(s)), someone will share stories of this famous Candlelight trek. For the uninitiated among us.

So: Shovel. Snowshoes. Rum.

No worries. I fully trust that you have others stories appropriate for a campfire. (Can we have a campfire?)

And by coincidence, guess what day the Full Moon hits....?

I think Bee was adding to the recipe not to the outing? But Bee, it would be nice to meet you sometime.

I think Man-With-Igloo-Making-Tool is suggesting that we concentrate on the task at hand?

Feuding factions? I don't see any of that... We are all just one big happy family sharing the playground!
Looking forward to this Quinzee/Igloo adventure. I may even revisit my ski touring skills of yore.

If the group builds an igloo, then it fits in with this wisdom:

[Brad] Washburn had told us that you build igloos because they don’t flap in the wind, and “because you have to go outside to find out what the weather is doing.”

"As the trailhead turns" LOL

Just as dysfunctional and quirky as any other family.

Two groups just took different routes up to Candlelight. A few mavericks in the herd.

May have to join in on the igloo thing....bring a jacket and a snack!

Ooops (Akichow was correct)! Imagine if I can easily mess up a one-liner, a full-out conversation would Bee too much to handle laugh

Akichow, we will meet some day; I have been enjoying your transformation into mountainneer (you need to check out Castle Peak across the 80 from Boreal Ridge)

Richard P, everybody's getting restless for more fun, so I would not take anything posted too seriously.
