Unbelievable! Tee-shirts on the summit at 10:30am in mid-October.

Met Peter on the way up... he beat me to the summit... so I took him down the MR... he managed to avoid ending up down at Arctic Lake... and enjoyed a really new adventure on Mt. Whitney!

Here are some more photos:

Switchback 97.

Peter on the summit of Mt. Whitney.

Climbing down the Final 400'.

Peter in the main Couloir.

Some of the snow was soft enough to use the existing boot track... a lot not!

The Catwalk was manageable, even with pretty good snow coverage.

Finishing off the Buttress approach descent.

The Blue Ice is forming up, but I worry that there isn't enough flow from Thor / Girl Scout / Frog Pond to make it good climbing.

Love tee's on the summit mid-October. My 1st Whitney summit was in November... tee-shirt & shorts.

Looks like a phenomenal day. As always, great pix Richard. Still need to get on the MR. smile

BTW, I'm at 7 weeks in-a-row...
Should I try for 52 again?

I keep hearing conflicting info on the upcoming Winter... some weather forecasters are saying El Nino, some another dry year for us...

I really think that we need to do another "unofficial Group Climb" up Whitney. As I'm getting into better shape, I'm becoming less interested in the Main Trail side of the mountain, so... (I think you can read another invitation in this...)

Yeti - Fear not. This will be the year of the snow. So enjoy wearing the T's but get your crampons ready...

I was thinking next Friday...
Jeff M seems interested in the MR too...

The FS unofficially scolded me for that Big (crowded) Adventure we had a few years back... they've probably forgotten about it... So someone pick a date for next Apr-May...

Was that the trip that was bestowed the moniker of "Culling the Newbies"?

The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.

Brandon aka BMan came up with the title

Culling The Rookies.

Stirred up quite the Controversy on the Board. Doug eventually deleted the thread because of the nonsense spewed by Sky Pilot (?) that got a few over the top replies from me...

It was a Fun SAFE trip.

Would Friday's MR be an open invite or private party?

Really too bad, since that hike was a once in a blue moon (or way less) event.

Haha, as if one of our goofy get-together hikes would have any impact. No, they had electronic trail monitors in place throughout summer 2007. Data confirmed much larger numbers than previously thought along with destruction of habitat along the trail. Permits ensued...

Here's what they looked like at the time:

I'm still thinking I may take a run up Tyndall on Friday, but I would be down for a quick up-and-back on the MR on Sunday (but none of this 4:00am nonsense).

First off, I hope the weather holds for another few weeks...
Second, we need to coordinate a time for a meeting on top when 52 happens...
Third, I knew it was going to be repeated...
