We went up the John Muir route (1873). We expected to see Richard at Lower Boy Scout Lake. No show. Oh well, guess we'll head to Winnedumah now.

I personally want to thank Doug and Earlene for the fantastic get together at the ranch. They are hands down the kindest, most generous folks I've been allowed to hang with in the Whitney Area. Doug's walks and talks make visiting a pleasure every time.

Myles and Amy's slide show was amazing, great new route, thanks for sharing that with us, great way to top off an day of fun.

It was great meeting new friends, catching up with other one's (Giga great to see you after such a long time).

Happy Birthday to all those that were celebrating and thanks also to all those that pitched in and helped make this happen.

Great fun, great food, great friends.

smile

P.S. Did anyone see Richard wink

We saw him on the south side of the North Fork at 6:30 thrashing around in the bushes, lost and refusing to answer our shouts. (Someone should call SAR before he wanders up Whitney again...)

Second what Lilbitmo said. Jeff, LOL. Doug led group hikes to two very distinct and impressive destinations. First the Ashram in Tuttle Creek and later in the day long abandoned camps, caves and canyons in the Alabamas. Followed by a first class cookout. Great to see Doug, Earlene, Miles and Amy and their amazing slide show!
Truly first class weekend. Thanks everyone! Photos here:

It was a great weekend! I'd like to upload some additional pictures but something has changed with flickr and I can't find a decent jpg link to use. Any suggestions?

Let's give it a try. Ok, it works with some editing. smile Why did they make this so hard?

Approaching the Ashram.

The Ashram

Miles is contemplating a new route.

Bear scat in the Alabama Hills.

Exploring "houses" built into the rock in the Alabama Hills.

Potluck! I'll have some of that....

Lots of good things. Maura's tamales were amazing. Patrick's macroni salad was fantastic.

More potluck.

From the drive home. Kirkwood got dusting.

Now that was the kind of birthday I like.

Thanks Doug for putting on such a great day, it was good to see everyone again, the slide show by Myles and Amy was awesome, they should have a blast in China.
Once again thanks,
Cheers Phil

Good to see Bob again

Thanks Doug, Earlene, Doug Jr. and Maura - and everyone else - for all the good eats, hospitality, historical tours, beer gardens/Rocktoberfest celebration...Brian had a good time and that means a lot to me as well.

Nice to meet Mrs. Rockwell and see Bob "in person" again.

Hi Tom I bought two the other is lime green that will go well during the dark days of winter ahead .

Now onto the search for Richard .Mike and Hartly went up Sunday to take several more jackets and those orange things that look like they were well you know came out of the tail pipe of a marmot .

Thanks everyone for making this a great weekend, hope to see you on Baldy for the Hero's hike and would think that would also be a great time for Shin to mark somewhere around the double the number he did a few years ago .

Again it was an honor to spend time with a great group of people and if you didn't make the hike or the cookout we still thought of you as being with us.

Thanks the Portal Crew

Thanks as always Portal Crew. Really great seeing some of the gang from years past. Looking forward to the Hero hike and whatever Hills/Creek/winter/snow/ice injury romp comes up in the meantime...
