Got a reservation at the Grand Canyon Lodge for Thursday October 8th 2015.

Going South to North overnighting and then back on the 9th.

We have a campground reservation starting Monday the 5th leaving Saturday the 10th.

Open invitation. Make your own plans and reservations. Make it an informal, formal WPSF gathering?

Hike your own hike, hike with others,or hike alone. We'll be there.

We're not speedsters but we can get the job done.we've hiked the standard Whitney route twice.2011 and 2012. Did the JMT SOBO August/Sept 2014. Which by the way was a total blast!
Mid 50's for both the wife and I. Always try and have a grand time and finish what we started.

Anyone interested? Kurt?

This timing should work well for me. I'm scheduled to lead a Kilimanjaro/safari trip about 5 days after that. This will be fun!

I'll carry a can of Dinty Moore stew if that helps.

You'll just have to figure out a way to heat it up.

Hi You heat it? OK so for some years a group of us would hike down on Supper Bowl weekend and stay in one of the cabins ( this was the start of the ideal for the Hostel) and have the stew dinner at the Ranch, what is amazing is you sit with people from all over and dinner turns into a family meal .

This has been on my to do list for a very long time. I know this sounds lame... but where does one get said permit/reservations? It would be tight, but if I can swing it, would love to do it w/ folks from this board.

There are no permits involved.
Reservations would be necessary for places to stay on the South Rim(campgrounds, hotel, etc)accommodations on the North Rim would be the same. If your plan is fast and light,I'd suggest looking in to reservations at the Grand Canyon Lodge.

I would check the GC park website concerning permits.., Last fall (2014); a Special Use permit was initiated for parties/groups of 6 or more; doing rim 2 rim or r2r2r DAY HIKES. Demand/use has exceeded the ability of the resource to support the hundreds passing through the Phantom Ranch Complex and the clean up of the runners/hikers/ sick/injured's impact. So some planning will be needed to be less than a party of 6.....

Unfortunately, depending how you want to look at it,we are unable to do this hike in October. Unemployment has a way of putting a damper on things.................or presents one with a chance at other opportunities. With no job(or boss to say no to vacation)
We are going to head over to Spain to do the Camino. We'll hike the Norte until the weather drives us inland. Then the Primativo. We'll intersect the traditional Frances route into Santiago de Compestella. Just over 500 miles in 42 days.
Did the JMT last year. This will be a bit different. No heavy packs, but a few more miles each day.
My most sincere apology to anyone that was planning to meet up with us for the R2R2R hike.My advise is carry on and go anyways. We'll look forward to a TR when we get back and we'll do the same when we return stateside.

Well Spain sounds like a fun trip. I'd love to hike to trek through some of that region sometime.

I'm out for the Grand Canyon this fall too. I got engaged and that'll be a little close in timing to when I'll be tying the knot smile.

Perhaps next year?
